FD40‑RT Rough Terrain Forklifts for Building Materials Yard Operations

FD40‑RT 4 ton 4×4 rough terrain forklifts help a building materials yard move bricks, concrete blocks, bagged cement and stone products across mixed concrete and gravel surfaces. With large off‑road tyres and high ground clearance, they unload trucks, transfer pallets from deep storage rows and keep construction materials flowing in all weather conditions.

Customer & Project Background:

The customer is a regional building materials supplier operating a large outdoor yard that serves multiple housing and commercial construction projects in the surrounding area. The site includes open storage lanes for bricks, concrete blocks, pavers, bagged cement and steel mesh, with truck loading areas directly connected to nearby construction sites.

Ground conditions vary from concrete near the loading bays to compacted gravel and dusty, loose surfaces in the bulk materials zones. The supplier needed forklifts that could lift heavy pallets and travel safely across these mixed surfaces every day.

Challenges

The building materials yard presented several operational challenges:

  • Loose and uneven ground in outdoor storage lanes where bricks, pavers and stone products are stacked on pallets.

  • High daily volumes of inbound and outbound trucks requiring fast loading of cement bags, block pallets and mixed materials.

  • Need to maintain productivity in wet weather when gravel areas become soft or rutted.

  • Desire to reduce manual handling and double‑handling between bulk storage and truck loading lines.

Standard warehouse forklifts struggled with traction and ground clearance on gravel and dusty surfaces, creating delays and safety risks when carrying heavy building materials.

Equipment Solution from HAMAC:

To address these issues, HAMAC supplied three FD40‑RT 4 ton rough terrain forklifts configured for daily building materials yard operations. FD40‑RT offers a robust 4,000 kg lifting capacity and 4×4 drive, making it suitable for handling heavy pallets of bricks, blocks and bagged cement on uneven outdoor ground.

Key configuration points included:

  • Wide‑view mast for stacking materials safely in tight outdoor lanes.

  • Large deep‑pattern tyres and high ground clearance for travelling over gravel, dust and minor ruts.

  • Comfortable cab and simple controls so operators can work full shifts with reduced fatigue on rough terrain.

How FD40‑RT Forklifts Are Used On Site

Receiving and stacking incoming building materials
When bulk deliveries arrive, FD40‑RT forklifts unload pallets of bricks, blocks, pavers and bagged cement from trucks at the concrete unloading pads. They then transport these pallets into outdoor storage lanes, placing them on compacted gravel surfaces without getting stuck or bottoming out.

Internal transfers between bulk storage and truck loading lines
For outgoing loads to nearby construction sites, FD40‑RT units move selected pallets from deeper storage rows to the main loading area. This reduces the distance drivers and labourers must move materials by hand and keeps truck queues moving efficiently.

Serving multiple construction projects from one yard
Because FD40‑RT forklifts can navigate both concrete and rough gravel, the yard can flexibly stage loads for several different building projects at once. Operators prepare mixed loads of bricks, blocks, cement and steel mesh and deliver them quickly to trucks headed for housing and commercial construction sites.

Results and Benefits

By deploying FD40‑RT rough terrain forklifts, the building materials supplier achieved several benefits:

Higher throughput of trucks, with faster loading and unloading of heavy pallets on mixed ground surfaces.

  • Improved safety and reduced manual handling, as operators can place materials closer to trucks and workfronts over gravel and dusty terrain.

  • Consistent productivity in wet or soft ground conditions, thanks to 4×4 drive, deep‑tread tyres and high ground clearance.adaptalift+1

  • Better utilisation of outdoor storage space, because FD40‑RT can reach pallets located deeper in the yard where conventional forklifts cannot easily travel.

This case demonstrates how FD40‑RT rough terrain forklifts for building materials yard operations help construction suppliers keep critical materials flowing from outdoor stockpiles to active job sites, even when ground conditions are far from warehouse‑standard.
