Customer & Project Background:

In a precast concrete yard, an HT2506 telehandler is deployed to move and stack wall panels, floor slabs and small beams between production lines, curing lanes and outdoor storage rows. The telehandler handles medium-weight elements that do not require a large crane, providing flexible handling capacity wherever it is needed in the yard.

By assigning repetitive stacking and re-stacking tasks to HT2506, the precast producer frees cranes for heavy lifts and long-reach operations, while maintaining better control over how elements are arranged and accessed in storage.

Customer & Yard Background

The customer operates a precast concrete plant producing wall panels, floor slabs, stair flights and small beams for building and infrastructure projects. The facility includes indoor production halls, outdoor curing lanes and several storage rows on compacted gravel and partially paved surfaces.

Finished elements must be moved from production to curing, then into organised stacks in the yard, and finally retrieved in the correct sequence for truck loading. Yard space is limited, so stacks must be dense yet accessible, and equipment must navigate narrow lanes between rows.

Challenges

The yard relied heavily on overhead cranes and mobile cranes for both heavy and medium-weight elements, creating bottlenecks whenever multiple tasks needed crane time at the same moment.

Space between stacks and lanes was too tight for large equipment to reposition frequently, making it difficult to adjust stack layouts as production and orders changed.

Many elements needed to be moved more than once, for example from initial storage to re-stacked positions closer to the loading area, adding extra crane movements and increasing operating costs.

The producer needed a more agile machine that could handle medium loads, work in narrow aisles and place elements precisely in stacked configurations.

Equipment Solution from HAMAC:

HAMAC provided an HT2506 telehandler equipped with pallet forks and a dedicated lifting beam designed for precast elements. The telehandler combines telescopic reach with manoeuvrability, allowing operators to lift, transport and stack concrete units in different parts of the yard without extensive setup.

The HT2506 offers a 2.5 ton rated capacity suitable for typical wall panels and floor slabs in this plant, along with a 6 m lift height to place elements on the second or third layer of a stack. Its compact 4×4 chassis and steering modes enable it to operate in narrow aisles between storage rows.

Application in the Precast Yard

After elements are demoulded and cured, the telehandler picks them up from curing lanes using the lifting beam or specially adapted fork tines. HT2506 then transports them along compacted lanes to the designated storage area, following stack planning prepared by the yard supervisor.

At the storage rows, the telehandler positions itself parallel or perpendicular to the stack depending on available space, and uses its telescopic boom to place elements onto the required level. Operators control boom extension and tilt carefully so that panels and slabs sit evenly on timber bearers or spacers.

When customer orders require elements from deeper stacks, the telehandler is used to re-stack or shuffle units. It removes upper elements, temporarily moves them to a buffer zone, retrieves the required unit and then rebuilds the stack, all without waiting for crane availability.

HT2506 also assists with pre-loading operations by moving selected elements closer to the loading lanes, where heavier cranes or high-capacity forklifts handle final placement onto trailers.

Safety & Operating Practices

Telehandler operators at the plant receive specific training on handling precast concrete loads, including attachment use, load chart interpretation and safe stacking heights. Before lifting, they confirm element weight, lifting points and required boom reach to stay within rated capacity.

Stacking areas are kept level and compacted, with defined bearing arrangements for each layer in the stack. Operators maintain clear communication with ground guides and follow designated traffic routes to separate telehandler movements from other yard activities.

Regular inspections of the lifting beam, fork tines, hydraulic systems and tyres ensure that HT2506 remains reliable despite frequent outdoor use and exposure to concrete dust and moisture.
